I've called my Pentax K1000 my teacher, my paintbrush, my sidekick, my manifesto, my knock knock joke, my mentor, my sword, my pen and many other things. It's very important to me. I've bumped around a lot over the last 10 years with very little in tow. Banged around on buses and trains and airplanes and all the while, my K1000 has bumped right along with me. Either slung around my neck on a makeshift strap (made out of a lady's belt bought at a thrift store for 50 cents) or just jammed in my pocket. It's found shelter in shoulder bags and under my coat. It's been hidden inside the walls of some shady places I've lived. It's been around. Like Tom said, 'I don't need no makeup I got real scars'. It's got scars. This one is a doosie. It's the result of a mirror shattering on it. Not a hand mirror. Not a little compact mirror (don't know what I'd be doing with one of them anyway). But an old, full length mirror. A big, heavy, thick, full-length, heavy-as-sin mirror. It fell, kinda sideways on the old K1000 and broke over it as though it had landed on a stone. This scar over the 1/4 sec mark is one of the several it sustained. I immediately picked it up, spent & popped the rest of the roll that was in there & rushed it to an hour developer. The shots post-mirror were as good as the ones pre-mirror. That was around the time I also started calling it a 'warhorse', and 'the trooper'.
